A Mushroom Foray in San Pedro Valley Park with Miko Nadel

Sunday, December 6 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Join Miko Nadel for a fun mushroom hunt and learn all about the wild fungi hiding in the park!

On Saturday, December 6th at 10 am, people can comb the trails, searching for and collecting mushrooms. Miko Nadel, the event leader, will explain how best to collect mushrooms. Be prepared to place your collected mushrooms in a large basket or doubled paper bag. Waxed paper sandwich bags (available at Oceana Market in Eureka Square, Pacifica) would be helpful if you can find them.

The mushroom hunters will return to the assigned area by 12:30 pm for the wrap-up talk with Miko, who will identify and discuss the collected fungi. The more mushrooms collected, the better!

Rain does NOT cancel the event, so do dress accordingly.

This collection of mushrooms at SPVP is carried out for the Mycological Society of San Francisco’s Fungus Fair at El Camino High School. The Fungus Fair will take place on Sunday, December 7th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

We need a good turnout, so please sign up!

About the Leader:

Originally from Oregon, Miko Nadel earned a botany degree at Oregon State University before relocating to the Bay Area two decades ago. A master’s degree in systematic biology under Dr. Dennis Desjardin focused on Usnea in West Africa and deepened a lifelong fascination with fungi and lichens. Currently working as a Watershed Keeper for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission on the Crystal Springs Watershed, Miko remains an avid local enthusiast dedicated to foraging and learning more about fungi. He led the San Pedro Valley Park mushroom foray in 2025 and is back again this year to lead it again.
