Pollination, Seeds, and Fruits – J.R. Blair
On Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at 7 pm, the Friends of San Pedro Valley Park welcomed J.R. Blair, retired lecturer from San Francisco State University. He presented a lecture via Zoom entitled “Pollination, Seeds, and Fruits.” The transfer of pollen containing the male reproductive cells of a plant to the female part, typically, of another plant, is integral to the reproduction of seed-bearing plants. In his presentation, J.R. Blair discussed the ways that flowers get pollinated, how seed and fruit form, and how varied plant adaptations have evolved for seed dispersal to occur. We owe so much of our food to pollination which occurs due to birds, insects, butterflies, rodents, and bats seeking nectar.
