About the Talk: You may be surprised to learn that the second largest land owner in San Mateo County is the City and County of San Francisco. The 23,000 acre Peninsula Watershed, just over the hill from San Pedro Valley Park, is part of a much larger water supply system managed by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) that begins in the Sierras and provides water to 2.7 million customers in the Bay Area. The Peninsula Watershed has a complex mosaic of habitats that support a high concentration of rare, threatened, and endangered animal and plant species. Come learn more about how the Peninsula Watershed fits into the SFPUC’s drinking water system and about the SFPUC’s stewardship of the unique natural resources found on the Peninsula Watershed
.
About the Speaker: Ellen Natesan has a PhD in wildlife and fisheries science and over 20 years of experience working as an ecologist. Ellen has worked for the SFPUC since 2007. She currently manages a team of biologists and planners who perform ecological studies, stewardship planning, and environmental regulatory compliance associated with the SFPUC’s drinking water and wastewater systems.
