During a short walk around the park, Jim will introduce his techniques for characterizing birdsong into manageable “chunks” allowing you to identify a bird by its song. Song playback will draw birds into view and verify our identifications. We can expect to hear and see the following species: Oregon Junco, Pacific Wren, Wilson’s Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Wrentit, Hutton’s Vireo, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Scrub Jay, Stellar’s Jay, Purple Finch, Lesser Goldfinch, California Towhee, Spotted Towhee, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Swainson’s Thrush, Black Phoebe, and more. Bring your binoculars.
Meet in front of the parks Visitor’s Center at 8 AM.
