SUMMARY:Trail Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of San Pedro Valley Park for some needed Trail work. Work often varies by the seasons and is trail-oriented involving clearing brush from the trail sides\, cleaning out drain dips\, raking out trail bends\, and cutting overhanging branches. No experience necessary. These work parties typically last about 3 hours\, i.e.\, until 12:00 pm. We provide the tools; only heavy rain cancels. \nVolunteers meet at the Visitor Center at 9:00 am to begin work with volunteer leaders. Tools are provided. SUMMARY:California Shrub Diversity – Evolutionary and Ecological Patterns of Short Woody Plants
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of San Pedro Valley Park welcome back Morgan Stickrod for a webinar on California Shrub Diversity. Relative to California’s abundance of charismatic trees and herbaceous plants\, shrubs are often overlooked as amorphous or secondary features across the landscape. Yet California\, like other regions of the world characterized by a Mediterranean-type climate\, hosts a vast diversity of shrubs that are well represented throughout its myriad biomes and heterogeneous landscapes. Shrubland ecosystems such as chaparral account for the most extensive vegetation cover across the state\, and collectively support some of the highest levels of plant diversity.
